The Time Zone Gap Just Isn’t There

Ask a hiring manager what killed their last offshore hire and it’s rarely skill. It’s the 9pm standup nobody wants to run. Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey all sit in Central Time, the same zone as Dallas and Chicago, give or take an hour during part of the year when the two countries’ clocks briefly disagree on daylight saving.

That overlap matters more than people expect going in. Full workday overlap. Same-day Slack threads. A hire who can jump on a 2pm call without anyone doing math first.

Proximity helps too. Dallas to Mexico City is a two-and-a-half-hour flight. Houston to Monterrey is shorter than that. If a client ever wants to shake hands with their new hire in person, that’s a Tuesday, not a whole ordeal. See Latin America Staffing for how Mexico compares against Costa Rica and Colombia across the region, and Nearshore Staffing Agency for how every candidate gets vetted before you see a resume.

Everyone Wants to Hire in Mexico Right Now. Most Are Sourcing It Wrong.

Nearshoring to Mexico stopped being a niche idea a few years back. USMCA, supply chains moving closer to home, companies burned by 8-hour time gaps, take your pick. Everyone’s chasing the same market now.

Which is exactly the problem. When every company runs the same generic “Mexico talent” search, they end up bidding against each other for the same visible pool of candidates who already have three interviews scheduled this week. Sourcing depth is what separates a real placement from a month of ghosted applications.

Kore BPO is a US-owned staffing firm headquartered in Dallas, Texas, with a dedicated recruiting office in San Jose, Costa Rica and an established placement network reaching across Mexico’s three major labor markets. We’ve placed 6,236 hires across 257 client companies. Not all of them software roles either, which is where Mexico actually differs from a lot of the region.

How Mexico Stacks Up Against the Alternatives

Here’s how hiring in Mexico actually compares to your other two realistic options: a direct US hire, or a traditional offshore hire in South Asia.

Category Mexico (Nearshore) Traditional Offshore (South Asia) Direct US Hire
Time zone vs. US Central Time, same zone as Dallas and Chicago 8–12 hour gap, mostly async Same zone
Cost vs. US hire 40–55% savings Often lower hourly rate, but higher turnover cost Baseline, no savings
Talent depth Largest labor force in Latin America, broad bench across support, tech, and finance Large pool, wide quality range Deepest but most expensive
English proficiency (business use) Strong in CDMX, Guadalajara, and Monterrey’s outsourcing corridors Varies widely by market Native
Physical proximity 2–3 hour flight from most US hubs 18+ hour flight Domestic

Roles We Staff Out of Mexico

Mexico’s biggest advantage isn’t a single specialty. It’s the mix. Bilingual support at scale, a growing tech bench, and finance talent, all in one country.

Guadalajara Mexico software engineering and bilingual support team staffed through Kore BPO

Bilingual Customer Service

Mexico runs one of the largest contact center industries in the world. Live chat agents, phone support, and email support reps who work US hours natively. See customer service staffing.

Software Engineering

Guadalajara has built a genuine tech scene, backend, full-stack, and QA. Smaller bench than Colombia’s, but growing fast. See Nearshore Software Development.

Finance and Accounting

Monterrey’s business services sector runs deep on AP/AR, bookkeeping, and FP&A support. Detail on our finance and accounting solutions page.

Admin and Virtual Assistants

Executive assistants, data entry, and back-office support. See admin support services for the full breakdown.

Who Mexico Staffing Works For, and Who It Doesn’t

Full disclosure. We’re a staffing company. We benefit when you hire through us. Here’s the “not right for” list anyway, because a wrong-fit placement wastes everyone’s time.

Right Fit for This

  • US companies that need real-time overlap and can’t tolerate an 8-hour handoff delay
  • You need bilingual customer service or support at volume, Mexico’s deepest specialty
  • Your team runs on Central or Eastern Time and wants same-day collaboration
  • Companies between $5M and $200M in revenue scaling without adding to US payroll
  • You occasionally want to meet your team in person, without a 20-hour flight

Probably Not Right

  • The role legally requires US citizenship, security clearance, or physical US presence
  • You need deep senior-level software architecture talent at scale. Colombia’s bench runs deeper there.
  • You’re filling a one-time task. A freelance platform gets you there faster.
  • You need someone starting tomorrow. Two to five days is fast. It isn’t instant.

Before You Decide

Mexico brings up a couple of questions the other Latin America pages don’t. We’d rather answer them straight than dodge them.

Is safety actually a concern with hiring remote talent in Mexico?
Honestly, this comes up more than any other Mexico-specific question, and it’s almost always about the wrong thing. You’re hiring a remote employee working from an office or home setup, not sending staff into a risk zone. In our experience placing hires across the region, this hasn’t come up as an operational problem. It’s a fair question. It’s just not the risk people assume it is.
Should I hire in Mexico City, Guadalajara, or Monterrey?
Depends on the role. Guadalajara for software engineering. Monterrey for finance and business services, it has a more corporate, industrial base. Mexico City for basically everything else, it’s the largest labor market by far. We’ll tell you which city fits before you commit to a search.
Is nearshoring to Mexico the same as offshore outsourcing?
Not really, no. Offshore usually means a bigger time gap and a more transactional handoff. Nearshoring to Mexico means someone on your Slack during your actual workday. Different problem, different solution. See our BPO Solutions page for where staffing and outsourcing actually diverge.
What if the hire doesn’t work out?
We source a replacement at no additional placement fee.
What does $0 upfront fees actually mean?
Nothing is charged until a candidate starts in the role. No retainer, no search deposit. Our fee activates on the hire’s start date.

Mexico’s Labor Markets We Recruit From

Our Mexico network centers on the country’s three largest metro labor markets, each with a different specialty.

Mexico City is the country’s largest labor market by a wide margin, with the deepest bench across bilingual support, finance, and admin. Guadalajara, often called Mexico’s tech hub, has built a real software engineering community. Monterrey skews corporate and industrial, strong for finance and business services roles tied to manufacturing and logistics clients.

We don’t operate a physical office in Mexico. Sourcing and screening run through our recruiting team based in San Jose, Costa Rica, with a placement network built specifically around these three cities. Compliance and payroll for your Mexico hire are handled on our side either way.

What People Ask Before Hiring in Mexico

The questions US companies ask most often before their first Mexico placement.

How long does it take to fill a role in Mexico?

Most roles get a shortlist of resumes in 2 to 5 business days. Bilingual customer service roles usually move on the faster end. Specialized software engineering searches in Guadalajara sometimes take a bit longer.

Is Mexico or Colombia the better fit for a software engineering role?

Colombia, usually. Bogotá and Medellín have a deeper engineering bench today. Mexico pulls ahead when the priority is bilingual customer support at scale, finance and accounting, or a role where real-time overlap and easy travel matter more than raw engineering depth. We’ll say so directly on the discovery call, even when it points to a different page on this site.

What’s the going rate for a bilingual customer service rep in Mexico right now?

It varies by experience level and shift coverage, but companies typically land in the 40 to 55 percent savings range versus a US-based hire. We’ll give you an exact number once we know the role. A quote before that isn’t worth much.

Do you have a local presence in Mexico, or operate remotely?

No physical Mexico office today. Sourcing and screening run through our recruiting team in San Jose, Costa Rica, alongside a placement network built around Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. We handle Mexico compliance and payroll on our side once your hire starts.

Do I need a local entity to hire in Mexico?

No. We handle local compliance and payroll on our side, so you don’t have to set up a foreign entity to hire one person.

Does the US-Mexico time zone overlap really hold up year-round?

Almost entirely. Mexico’s central region doesn’t observe daylight saving the way the US does, so for a few weeks each spring and fall there’s a one-hour gap instead of zero. The rest of the year, it’s full overlap with Dallas and Chicago. Not a real scheduling problem in practice.

Is Mexico staffing the same as Business Process Outsourcing?

Not exactly. Staffing places a dedicated hire who works inside your team under your direction. BPO hands an entire function to us to run end to end. See our BPO Solutions page for that comparison.
